Weekly update


Mairead's new Irish record

On Saturday last in Texas at the big 12 th Conference Collegiate Indoor Championships Mairead Murphy Ferrybank AC competing with Kansas State University finished third in the Pentahlon but set a new Irish record of 3934 points beating the old record set in 1992 by Brid Golden by 25 points. Mairead had two personal bests in the 800 Metres and Long Jump,t he event was won by her team mate from Kansas Ryann Krais with 4079 points

British Silvers for James Greene and Aisling Quinn.

A number of athletes from Ferrybank AC competed in Birmingham last week end at the British under age Indoor Championships and James Greene had a very successful two days  Competing in the 400 Metres under 20 heats on Saturday he won his first round heat in 49.04 and also his semi final in 48.64  and then on Sunday with yet another better time he took the silver medal in a time of 48.31 seconds. Again on Sunday the ever consistent Aisling Quinn finished second in the under 17 1500 metres final in 4 minutes 44.81 seconds a personal best to take the silver medal and just two places behind her was Orla Queally in 4 th place two excellent performances. Niamh Casey made it through to the 800 Metres u 15 final where she finished 5th in a personal best time of 2 minutes 21 seconds.

National Cross Country

Ferrybank AC had a men's team competing in the National Senior Cross Country Championships in Santry on Sunday last and they finished 5th team overall and took the Grade ( B ) team title. There placings were as follows; Andrew Connick 22 nd, Patrick Hogan 33 rd, Michael Dowling 40 th and Brian Gallagher 86 th.


Munster Juvenile Titles.

Ferrybanks Tom Gallagher won the u 12 Long Jump. Fiona Egboka was second in the Shot Putt u 12, Rachel Walsh second in  60 Metres u 10 and third placings went to Chloe Farrell u 13 Long Jump, Fiona Egboka Long Jump and 60 Metres u 12, Paula Igwe 60 Metres u 10, Kevwe Ojoh 60 Metres u 11. 


Major March Fixtures

Munster u 14 to 19 Indoors Nenagh Saturday and Sunday next March 3rd and 4 th, All Ireland Secondary Schools Cross Country Championships, St Mary's, Galway, Saturday 10 th, Irish Universities Cross Country Championships, WIT Carriganore Campus, Waterford, Saturday 10 th, All Ireland Juvenile Indoors Saturday and Sunday March 24 th and 25 th and Saturday 31 st. The World Indoor Championships are in Istanbul  from March 9th to March 14 th.

WLRFM Waterford Viking Marathon

Just  four months now to go for the big day in Waterford June 30th for the first ever Marathon in the area. Entries are still coming in apace and all those running around the city and county can run as they please, a full Marathon, a Half Marathon or on Relay teams see

WIT host National Cross Country

WIT will host the Irish Universities Cross Country Championships on  Saturday week March 10 th at  at Carriganore There will be two races on the day the women's at 2.50 pm and the men's at 3.15 pm.WIT have many athletes competing and the men's team is one of the favourites for the team title and lots of support would be appreciated.

26.2.2012 AAA's medals

Two fantastic silver medals in the England championships in Birmingham today. James Greene ran another superb pb of 48.31s for the second place in the under 20 400m. Aisling Quinn ran a pb of 4.44 in the under 17 1500m taking the silver medal. Orla Quelly had a great run also for fourth place in this event. Niamh Casey finished fifth in the under 15 800m with a pb of 2.21. John Halley also got a pb in the 200m. Well done to all the athletes at this extremely high level of competition!

26.2.2012 Munster Indoors

Good results at the second day of the under 9-13 championships in nenagh. Fiona Egboko won silver in the shot and bronze in the long jump under 12 adding to her bronze from yesterday. Chloe Farrell won bronze in the long jump under 13. Well done girls and also to everyone who competed in Nenagh!

26.2.2012 Cross Country

Well Done to Ferrybank men's team on winning the B division getting promotion for the 2nd year running and finishing 5th overall at the Interclub Cross Country Champs today

25.2.2012 AAA's

News from the first day of the 3a's still coming in....Fantastic semi final win for James Greene in the 3a's 400m under 20. 48.64 a massive new pb and a classy time! Well done James. Great run also from Niamh Casey to make the 800m final under 15. Ben Kiely had a fabulous new pb 50.52 in the 400m and was really unlucky not to make tomorrows final. PBs also for Niamh Giles Doran and Siobhan Whelan in the 60m under 17. Sean Archer just missed the final eight in the triple jump. good performances from all the other athletes also gaining great experience at the championships. Well done

25.2.2012 Munster Indoors

Great results from the first day of the younger age groups indoors in Nenagh. Tom Gallagher won gold in the long jump under 12, Rachael Walsh and Paula Igwe were 2nd and 3rd in the under 10 60m, Kevwe Ejiro was third in the under 11 60m and Fiona Egboko was third in the under 12 60m. Great going guys. Well done to all who competed!

24.2.2012 Mairead Murphy new record

News just in from US. Mairead murphy has just set a new irish Senior record in the pentathlon tonight scoring 3934 points and adding 25 points to the national record coming 3rd in the big 12 conference.8.53 hurdles, 1.62 high jump, 11.15m shot, 5.58m long jump and 2.19.3 800m. Well done Mairead! good to keep the record in the club!!!!
