Ruairi - 9th in Dublin City Marathon

A huge well done to Ruairi O Donnell who placed 9th in the over 35 category in the Dublin marathon in a fantastic time of 2.36.59! Well done Ruairi! Congratulations also to John Whelan who completed the epic distance in a personal best of 3.29...Fabulous running guys!

Munster XC day 1

Well done to all our athletes who braved the difficult conditions in Limerick today at the Munster Cross Country. Ciara Cronin had an excellent run in the u 23 race finishing second overall. Orla Quelly had a great run finishing eigth in the u 18 race. Tadhg Brennan was 13th u 16 and Adam Power was fifteenth u 14 with Cian O Keeffe having a fine run also.. The girls u 14 team ran a super race and were just outside the medals. Well done to everyone who competed.

Munster Cross Country in Limerick


The first Munster Cross Country Championships of the season are on
Sunday next October 27 th and these are on Limerick racecourse
starting time11.30 am, please note this time. Races for boys and girls
under 12,14,16,18, Novice and Under 23 Men and women. There will be
many athletes from Waterford competing in both the individual and team
sections including in the  Novice and under 23 men's and women's
races. Then on Monday next many from Waterford and all over the South
East will compete in the Dublin City Marathon which begins at 9 am.
Next County Cross Country fixture is on Sunday November 3 rd in St
Augustine's College Abbeyside at 12 noon.. Its the  ( B ) Juvenile
boys and girls under 9.11,13,15.(Prizes for first 6 home but no team
prizes here.Athletes who have not been placed in the first three or on
a winning team in the ( A )championships are eligible for these events
or who have not run in the A event.

Mc Carthy's good run

Three members of the Irish 2010 U23 gold medal winning European cross
country team filled the top three positions in the senior men’s race
at the Gerry Farnan Annual Cross Country event in Dublin's Phoenix
Park on Sunday last which attracted a top class entry. An exciting
battle developed between Michael Mulhare Portlaoise AC and David
McCarthy West Waterford AC over the five lap contest. Both athletes
looked superb as they negotiated the sun drenched course in the
Phoenix Park. It was Mulhare who had the superior strength as he
pulled away from McCarthy to take the victory in a time of 24:30.
McCarthy hung on bravely for second place in a  time of 20:51 with the
fast finishing John Coughlan( SB AC third in 24:53

 USA News

The Providence College men's cross country team turned in a 12 th
place finish at the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational on Saturday last.
First home for Providence was Shane Quinn Ferrybank AC with a ninth
place finish out of a field of 280 competitors. .Providence finished
12th out of 36 teams, with 382 points.

Big Events for Waterford

The good news is that the All Ireland Juvenile Uneven Age Cross
Country Championships and Novice men and women have been allocated to
Waterford at WIT Sports Campus outside the City for Sunday December
15th. Waterford AC were successful in securing the event thanks to the
efforts of Tom O'Brien and Cait Caulfield back in the summer .This
will bring a massive entry to the area of thousands as well as many
supporters from the 32 counties. Prior to this of course will be the
Waterford Athletic Club Annual Half Marathon on Sunday December 1 st
at 11 am.Don't miss out on entering this race online at ONLINE or in
person at ALFIE HALE SPORTS, 40-42 Arundel Square Waterford. Entries
close on November 12th or before if it reaches a limit of 2000.There
is a new course this year for the event, the race will start and
finish at WIT Sports Campus.

Preparations

Athletics Ireland is committed to delivering top athlete performance
at the SPAR European Cross Country Championships which will be held in
Belgrade, Serbia on 8 th of December. National Endurance Coach, Chris
Jones who is leading athlete and team preparations for the
championships commented: “We have invested in preparations for these
championships. I have just returned from a very productive high
altitude training camp in Font Romeu, in the French Pyrenees with our
Senior Squad. Our Junior athletes have been involved in squad
development sessions allowing for their fitness and preparations to be
tracked.

National Awards Ceremony

The National Athletics Awards in association with Woodie’s DIY and
Tipperary Crystal will take place on Wednesday 20th of November in the
Crowne Plaza Hotel in Santry. This year Athletics Ireland is
introducing a new format of an Awards Luncheon.Awards presented on the
day will include the Track & Field Athlete of the Year, Endurance
Athlete of the Year, Club of the Year and the Lifetime Achievement
Award amongst a number of other awards. A full list of awards and
nominees will be released shortly on the website.

Cross Country Championships   in Abbeyside

In ideal conditions on Sunday last the Waterford County Championship
season continued in St Augustine's College Abbeyside and all clubs in
the county were represented. In the Masters Men’s the gold medal went
to Michael O’Mahony Waterford AC with West Waterford’s Andrew Leary
taking the silver and Ray Hahessy do the bronze. Turning to the Novice
men Gary Cantwell KCK AC won the  gold from team mate John Behan with
Sean Stilwell West Waterford AC taking bronze, KCK AC won the team
honours. .The winner of the master's women's title was  was West
Waterford’s Corina Walsh and Waterford’s Suzan Dullaghan  took the
silver.In the Juvenile section West Waterford AC had six individual
wins, Ferrybank AC two and Waterford AC and Tramore AC one each . In
the team section West Waterford had nine  wins  and Waterford AC one.

Murphy wins Solas 10 Miles

Almost 1600 took part in the Beat 102/103 Solas Centre South East 10
miles run in the city and surrounding areas on Sunday in brilliant
weather conditions. Leading from gun to tape Brian Murphy Carrick on
Suir was the very easy winner in a time of 51 minutes 14 seconds,
Trevor Power Waterford AC was second in 53.11  and Grahame Power
Ferrybank was third. in 55.15. Susan Finn was first lady home in 61.14
with Sylvia Malone second in 62.09 and Kate Nolan do was third in
65.43 . Sincere thanks to the Gardai and the voluntary bodies involved
on the day as well as all the stewards around the course and those at
water stations.it was a most enjoyable event and lots of activity in
the People's Park for the children also.

Cross Country Fixtures

 Next County Cross Country fixture is on Sunday November 3 rd in St

under 9.11,13,15.(Prizes for first 6 home but no team prizes here.

Munster Entries

John Behan will  be entering county teams Novice and under 23  this
week for the Munster X Country Championships, to be held on Limerick
Racecourse, in the Novice (1994 and older) and U23 (1991-1993) grades.
If any clubs have athletes competing in these categories, please
forward their details (Name, DOB, Reg Number) to him before this
Thursday and  he will enter county teams if sufficient numbers are

Transfers

There are two dates each year now that transfers can only take place
in.The next transfer window for athletes wishing to change club will
open on 1st April 2014.The Transfer Form is available for download in
the “Registrations” section of the AAI  website.All rules relating to
the Transfer Procedure are listed on the form.Completed forms must be
forwarded to the relevant County Board 7 Days Prior to the beginning
of the transfer month. In this case forms must be with the relevant
County Board prior to 25th March 2014.Completed forms are forwarded to
Athletics Ireland by the County Board when they have been
reviewed/approved by the April meeting.The transfer date applicable in
this case is 1st May 2014.Transferring athletes are not eligible to
compete for their new club until 1st May 2014. In simple terms this
means there can be no transfers until the above specified time. After
that the date is 1 st September 2014 All Clubs are aware of these
procedures but anyone can download the full Transfer  data from
Athletic Ireland Website the rules couldn't be any clearer. Anyone
sending in transfer forms outside these times will only cause
unnecessary problems between clubs who can do nothing about them.

County Cross Country Championships Day 2

A fantastic day for the club at the second round of the county cross country championships with lots of individual and team medals. In the u 9 girls Aoibhe Waring had a great run to place second leading her team (Aoibhe, Molly, Isobelle and Aisling) to silver medals. In the boys u 9 Jake Coffey had a super run for the bronze individual medal and his team ( Jake, Robbie, Conor H, Conor G and Niall) also won silver medals. In the girls u 11 race Emma Beadle had a great run for third overall and the team here (Emma, Praise, Aoibh, Rachel, Aoife, Jessica & Catherine) also were proud winners of the silver medal. The boys u 11 race saw Daire O Keeffe win the individual silver medal and his team ( Daire, Ciaran, Scott & Josh) took bronze medals. In the girls u 13 race Caoimhe Duffy Niblock had a super run for second overall with the team ( Caoimhe, Zoe, Aoife, Hannah, Clodagh and Aine) taking silver just missing gold by one point! Adam Power had an outstanding run to win the u 13 boys race. Cian O Keeffe had a fine run in his first cross country race u 15. Orla Quelly ran really well for silver u 17 and Eoin Browne showed his super form winning the u 17 boys with Tadhg Brennan just a few places behind. Well done to one and all today....fantastic running!

Solas Run For Life

Well done to everyone from the club who completed the Solas 10 mile Run For Life in the city today. Special congratulations to Graham power who finished third overall and Brian gallagher who finished fourth overall. Well done everyone!

County Senior Cross Country titles for Power and Walsh

St Augustine's College Grounds Abbeyside was the venue on Sunday last
for the first County Championships Cross Country fixture of the season
and all clubs in the County were represented.The senior ,junior and
under 18 championships were incorporated into the West Waterford Open
fixture and Trevor Power Waterford AC was first home in the senior
men's race in front of his team mates Frank Quinlan and Brian Swaby
and Waterford AC won the team award, the senior ladies title was won
by Corina Walsh West Waterford AC in front of Suzanne Dullaghan and
Joan Mahony Waterford AC and West Waterford AC took the team title. In
the juvenile section there were impressive winning performances by
Jack Corcoran under 10, Hugo Blair u 14 and Linsey Mc Guire u 14 all
three Waterford AC and Aoife Hamilton u 16, Miceal Power u 16 and
Cormac O'Mahony u 12 from West Waterford.  Five juvenile team awards
went to West Waterford ,  two to Waterford and  one to.Ferrybank .Full

Murphy wins in Ballyduff

In lovely weather conditions the Annual Ballyduff Lower GAA  5 Miles
Road Race was held on Saturday last over a difficult but scenic course
but the entry was small. The easy winner was Brian Murphy Carrick on
Suir in 26 minutes 44 seconds,Trevor Swift was second in 28.45 and
Colm Heylin third in 30.01. First lady home was Keely Tideswell,
Clonmel in 33.33, Liz Nolan Waterford AC was second in 36.05 and Janet
Quinlan  do was third in 36.11  First lady over 40 Sharon Flynn
Waterford AC, first man over 40 Michael O'Mahony do,  First Junior
Mark Condon.

Season continues on Sunday

Day 2 of the County Cross Country Championships are in Abbeyside on
Sunday next with a 12 noon start, Races for boys and girls under
9,11,13,15,17 and Novice and Master's men and women, first race girls
under 9. In Waterford City on Sunday next at 12.30 pm the Solas Centre
10 miles road race is expected to have a huge entry.see Solas Centre
Website, the starting point for Sunday's race is close to the Clock
Tower on The Quay.  First Munster Cross Country  Championships; Sunday
October 27 th Juvenile Even Ages Novice and Under 23 men and women
Limerick Racecourse. .

County Cross Country Day 1

We had  very good results at the opening day of the County Cross Country Championships.

  • Girls u 10 Team 2nd
  • Boys u 10 team 3rd
  • Girls u 12 ....great runs from Aine, Rachel and Sophie but we were short one runner to make a team.
  • Boys u 12 team 3rd
  • Girls u 14 team 1st & Molly and Zoe joint third. 
  • Boys u 14 Adam 3rd just short for a team here also. 
  • Girls u 18 Orla 1st
