Irish Universities Championships

The R.S.C was the venue on Friday and Saturday last for the Irish
University Track and Field Championships the first major fixture to be
held there since the track was laid  It was a very successful
championships with Waterford AC and Menapians AC Wexford to the fore
in helping WIT AC to host the event this year. Congrats to WIT
Students Andrew Connick, Michael Deady, Shannon Ryan and all the
organising committee for pulling off such a professional event.
Particular thanks to all the parents and juvenile members of Waterford
AC who gave their time to help and add to the sense of occasion for
the athletes involved. Thanks also to coaches Cait Caulfield, Brian
Scanlon, Deckie Harte, David Murphy, Tom O'Brien and Kieran Leahy who
all gave their time freely to act as officials for the event on behalf
of Waterford AC and also to Tom Prendergast Ferrybank AC, Bro Patrick
and Greg Ashe West Waterford.  Athletes from WIT figured prominently
as did Waterford athletes competing for various University's and
Institutes. Barry Upton U.L won the 400 m hurdles,Ciara Cronin UCC the
800 m and for WIT Andrew Connick won the 10000 metres. Silver medal
winners  were Zoe Scanlon javelin, Eimear Lynch 400 metres both WIT
Tom Boucher U.C.D 16 kg weight, Niall Tuohy U.L. 1500 m, Sorcha Murphy
do high jump, Thomas Houlihan CIT and his sister Lisa NUI Maynooth
both in the pole vault  while third placings were secured by Keith
Smith javelin and long jump, Neil Fox 3000 m walk both WIT and Niamh
Whelan U.L. Visiting athletes and officials were very happy with the
facilities at the R.S.C. and with the staff also

Two Waterford Athletes win in Wales

Ar the Great Welsh Marathon in Llannelli on Sunday last Brian Byrne
West Waterford won the event in 2 hrs 43 minutes 3 seconds and Garrett
Byrne from the same club was 9 th in 3.01.12 First home in the ladies
race was Maeve Savage Waterford AC in 3.25.50

County Schools Championships

On Wednesday last the County Secondary Schools Championships were held
at the R.S.C Doubles were recorded by the following athletes; Ciara Mc
Kenna St Augustine's, Kate Flavin Stella Maris, Emma Hallahan St
Augustine's, Orlaith O'Brien Ursuline, Aaron Donnelly Abbey C.C. James
Murphy Tramore CBS, Mathew Hurley Dungarvan CBS, Sean Whittle De La
Salle, Ciaran O'Maoileoin St Augustine's and Darragh Musgrave De La
Salle and Kate McGrath Ard Sciol na n Deise  Ursuline won the girls
Trophy and De La Salle the boys. Other Winners were Boys; Jonathan
Crowley , Michael Dineen, Billy Delahunty, Tadg Brennan, Cillian
Drohan, Eoin Kenny all  De La Salle, Regix Madika, Jamie Stone Tramore
CBS, Brian Cooke, Anthony Mc Carthy .St Pauls, John Devine St
Augustine's, Aghan Swales, Dylan Swales, Ralph Britton Scoil Cathal
Naofa. Girls; Kristin Meade, Sinead O'Regan, Danielle Widger, Bella

Harty wins in Ballinroad

The 20 th Annual Ger Wyley Sports/'Skins Summer Road Race Series began
with  the MTS Media 5 km in Ballinroad on Friday last and 300
competed. The comfortable winner was Philip Harty West Waterford AC in
15 minutes 26 seconds, Frank Quinlan Waterford was second in 15.59 and
Zintars Klava West Waterford  third in 16.31. First lady home was
Sinead Mansfield West Waterford in 18. 43, Evelyn Cashman Youghal was
second in 18.48 and Aine Roche Clonmel was third in 18.53.

Splashworld 10 KM Results

290 competed in above race on Sunday morning last  in Tramore and
Brian Murphy Carrick on Suir won it in 32 minutes 35 seconds, Frank
Quinlan was second in 33.31 and Noel Murphy third in 34.55 both
Waterford AC . The Ladies were led home by Sylvia Malone Waterford AC
in 38.48, Naomi Doonan was second in 42.10 and Oonagh Boland was third
in 42.50. The junior 5 Km winners were Gerard Lynch jnr in 22.43 and
Zara Breslin in 25.39

Ferrybank AC  Sports

There was a huge entry for the Ferrybank Open Sports at the RSC on
Sunday last and the Trophy for best visiting club went to St Joseph's
AC 2nd St Lawrence O'Toole 3 rd Nenagh.

 Butlerstown Road Race on Saturday

The second race in the Ger Wyley Sports Skins Series will be the
Butlerstown 4 miles on Saturday next at 7 pm. Entries from 5.45 pm at
the Butlerstown GAA Centre, Holy Cross Waterford  and the proceeds go
to the Waterford Alzheimer Society. Please note the shorter distance
this year of 4 miles, previously it was 10 KM. On Sunday morning next
with an 11 am start the Easter Bunny 5 miles run is in the city
starting at the R.S.C where entries will be taken from 9.30 am.

Kilmacow Sports on Monday

At The Sports Complex in Kilmacow on Easter Monday the Annual Kimacow
Open Sports has a 1 pm start. Lots of events for juveniles,junior
senior and masters
