WLRFM Viking Marathon another great event

In ideal conditions the third Annual WLRFM/Viking Marathon races went
ahead in the city and Tramore areas last Saturday with 2000
participants overall. In addition to the competitors hundreds were
helping out in various capacities,many from voluntary organisations,
bands, individuals with the Gardai as usual very much involved.  All
around the courses there was a great atmosphere and back at the RSC it
was likewise. Many competed for local and national charities and the
event itself had as its two charities Aware and Irish Motor Neuron
Disease Association.

English winner

In the full Marathon last years winner Gary O'Hanlon led for the
majority of the race but tired in the last mile or two and was passed
by Keith Russell from Reading in England who went on to win, O'Hanlon
was second and Paul Lynch Ferns third and Trevor Power Waterford AC
with another big run was fourth. Last years ladies winner Pauline
Curley from Tullamore easily retained her title in front of Angela Mc
Cann Clonmel with Sally Forristal St Joseph's third. Philip Harty West
Waterford finished strongly to win the half marathon and Teresa Agar
St Abban's Laois retained the women's half title. Brian Murphy Carrick
on Suir led from the start to comfortably win the quarter marathon and
Martina O'Dwyer from the same club was first lady home. Mary B Ryan
Jennings Waterford AC running her 100 th marathon despite carrying an
injured leg ran a very good time of 3 hrs 52 minutes 7 seconds
finishing 155 th overall and was first lady over 55 home. Main results

Nivelles Details

Three athletes from Ferrybank competed in Nivelles in Belgium on
Saturday last and in miserable conditions Kelly Proper won the 200
metres in 23.53 seconds,she was also 4 th in the 100 metres in 11.70.
Jessie Barr struggling to regain top form finished 4 th in the 400
metres hurdles in 59.42 seconds well outside her best and Paul Murphy
was second in a graded 400 metres in 48.05 seconds in another meeting
in Belguim on Sunday he was also second in 48.25.Thomas Barr won a
400 metres hurdle race on Friday in Leixlip in 49.91 seconds

Munster winners aplenty

Last Saturday and Sunday numerous athletes from Waterford clubs had
terrific results at the Munster u 14 to19 championships in Cork For
Ferrybank the following won titles Orlaith O'Brien u16 javelin with a
record, Neasa Murphy high jump u18 again with a record, Anne Corcoran
u 16 shot putt and joint first high jump, Niamh Mc Nicol u 18 100 and
200 m,Siobhan Whelan u19 triple jump, Stephen Walsh u18 100 and 200m
Jake Bagge u 14 800 and1500 m, Sinead O' Regan u 16 high jump joint
first  Silver medal winners were Niall Murphy u18 triple jump,Chloe
Farrell u15 long jump, Niamh Giles Doran u 18 triple jump, Orlaith
O'Brien u 16 shot,Tom Gallagher u 14 high jump, and bronze medals went
to Frankie Dolphin u 16 hurdles,Eoin Kenny u 15 javelin,Orlaith
O'Brien u 16 hammer,Sean Whittle u 19 triple jump.West Waterford had
record breakers with Meg O'Connor u19 pole vault, Jurig Kanass u18
pole vault and wins also by Aoife Hamilton u 17 800 m,1500 m and
steeplechase, Eoghan Flynn u 17 discus, Aisling O'Connor u 16 pole
vault,silver medals were won by Eoghan Flynn u 17 javelin, Emma
Hallahan u 16 800 m, Megan Dunford u 17 pole vault and bronze won by
Emily O'Mahony u 14 hurdles, Miceál Power u 16 3000 m, Maura Gallagher
u 16 pole vault., Caoimhe Ryan u16 800 m, Emily O'Mahony u 14 long
jump.Waterford had wins by Niamh Drohan u 15 discus, Emma O'Brien u 18
walk, Orla O'Connor u15 walk, Emma Caulfield u 14 walk James Murphy u
15 triple jump,silver medal winners were Ruth Heery u15  walk, James
Murphy u 15 long jump, Kathleen Heery u16 hammer, Hannah Cawley u16
walk, Grace Furlong u 17 triple jump, Luke O'Brien u 16 javelin, and
bronze were won by Barry Keane u 18 1500 m, Hannah Jacob u16 walk,
Rachel Stephens u15 discus,Anna O,Connor u 15 walk and Lance Baylan u
15 100 m. Tramore AC medal winners were Denise O'Connor u 17 long jump
3rd and Shane Monagle u 15 hurdles 3 rd.

Races Abroad

Next weekend in Belguim on Saturday in Chambery Kelly Proper 200m and
long jump Niamh Whelan 100 and200 m both also on Sunday in Brussels,
Niall Tuohy in Belfast on Wednesday in 800 metres.

All Ireland Junior and under 23

Next Sunday many athletes from Waterford will compete in the National
junior and under 23 championships in Cork and Sunday is the last day
for athletes to get a standard for World Junior Championships. On
Saturday the All Ireland Juvenile relays are in Tullamore.

22 nd Annual Ras Na Rinne 6

Race 8 in the Ger Wyley Sports/Skins summer series is the 22nd Annual
Mooney's Pub Ras Na Rinne 6 miler is on Friday next July 4 th at 8 pm.
The race starts on the road at Colaiste Na Rinne and after a mile it
goes on to the Cunnigar beach for 4 miles approximately. Entries will
be taken at Halla Na Rinne and the presentation of prizes will be held
in Mooney’s Pub
