British and Irish Masters medals for Waterford athletes

Teams representing Ireland, England .Scotland,Wales and Northern
Ireland competed in the British and Irish Master's Cross Country
Championships in Nottingham on Saturday  in various age categories and
three athletes from Waterford were members of  Irish teams as well as
Brian Murphy from Carrick on Suir AC. Philip Harty West Waterford
finished 4 th overall in the over 35 age group and was a scoring
member of the Irish team that finished second being beaten by just one
point by England four athletes per team scored,Brian Murphy was 14 th
in the same race and the sixth scorer.  Sylvia Malone Waterford AC
was 5 th in the over 40 race and she too was a scoring member of the
Irish team that also finished second to England. In the over 40
category Frank Quinlan Waterford AC was 14 th and was the fifth
scoring member the team being second

Quinn's good run in USA

 On Saturday last in Terre Haute Indiana against a field of over 250
athletes from Universities all over the States Brendan Quinn had a
very good run to finish in 26 th place in a time of 30 minutes 45.1
seconds in the American National Collegiate Cross Country
Championships a much better placing than he achieved in 2013. He was
the first Irish athlete to finish and the first from his team in
Providence College who were 13 th of the 31 teams   The race was won
for the second successive year by Edward Cheserek, Oregan in 30.19.4

National Cross Country

Dundalk IT Grounds was the venue for the National Cross Country
Championships on Sunday last catering for Senior, under 23, junior and
juveniles. One athlete from Waterford Dermot Cummins West Waterford
competed at senior level and ran well to finish 20 th and just one
under 23 competitor was there also. This was Órna Murray Ferrybank and
she had a good run to finish 4 th overall. In the juvenile section
West Waterford AC girls under 14 team had a great victory winning the
inter club title the team being Lucy Holmes, Aoife O'Brien, Mary Kate
Prendergast, Nolwenn Legal and Hannah Hallahan. The very consistent
Jake Bagge Ferrybank took  the bronze medal in the closest finish of
the day in the under 14 race and just behind him came Cian O'Riordan
West Waterford in 5 th place with a fine effort..Other West Waterford
athletes to gain high placings were Oisin O'Riordan with a  6 th place
under 12 and he was on the winning Munster team, Miceál Power was 9 th
under 16 and Lucy Holmes 11 th under 14. Jake Bagge and Cian O'Riordan
were on the winning Munster u 14 team and Miceál Power was on the
Munster u 16 team placed second, Sean Curran  West Waterford and Barry
Keane Waterford were on Munster u 18 team who were second also while
on Munster teams placed third were Aoife Hamilton  West Waterford and
Órla Queally Ferrybank.u 18 and Hannah Power and Darina Shanley  under
16. all West Waterford

Munster Fixture

  Kartworld, Watergrasshill Co. Cork  is the venue on Sunday next
November 30 th,for the Munster 'B' Juvenile u 9,11,13,15,17 and 19 and
Master's Cross Country Championships with the first event at 11.30 am.

Winter League.

This Thursday the Winter League continues in the city starting at the
RSC at 7 pm. with huge numbers participating

Waterford AC Half Marathon

 A  record 1750 have entered for the Waterford AC Annual Half Marathon
which takes place on Saturday week with a 10 am start from WIT Sports
Campus.

Paddy Joe Curran Memorial Turkey Trot..

The 6 th Annual Clean Zone Technology ltd sponsored Paddy Joe Curran
memorial Turkey Trot 5 mile charity run will take place on Sunday,
December 14 th at 12 noon.There will also be a walk over a distance of
4 miles on the day which also gets under way at 12.   Entry to the
race is open to all over 16. The entries for the race will be taken at
the Marine Bar. The event is being held to raise funds for West
Waterford Hospice.
