Butlerstown Annual Race won by Trevor Power.

180 competed in the 32 nd Annual Butlerstown 4 miles road race on
Saturday last which was the second race in the Ger Wyley Sports/Skins
Summer Series and Trevor Power Waterford AC a native of Butlerstown
was first home in 20 minutes 47 seconds, David Ryan Clonmel was second
in 21 00 and Brian Murphy Crusaders was third in 21.04. First lady
home was Martina O'Dwyer Carrick on Suir in 23.50, Adele Walsh St
Senan's was second in 23,55 and  third was Sinead Mansfield West
Waterford in 24.38. The category winners were as follows; Men;.0/40
John Browne Clonmel AC 24.31 0/45 Jim Baldwin Waterford AC 23.26, 0/50
Derek Nolan Clonmel AC 23.41, 0/55 Tom Moroney West Waterford AC

As usual Pat Hennessy was very much involved in this race and his wife
 and Mrs Lonergan supplied super refreshments to all athletes
afterwards in the Holy Cross Lounge.. As usual  Butlerstown GAA
supplied their excellent facility for registration and parking and a
big thank you to the management and staff at The Holy Cross and to
West Waterford AC and all stewards..

Easter Bunny Run

On Easter Sunday morning the Easter Bunny Run over 5 miles in the city
had 230 runners and also many men, women and children walking, the
proceeds went to the Solas Centre..The race was started at the R.S.C
by President of the F.A.I John Delany. The overall easy winner was
Brian Murphy of Carrick on Suir in 26 minutes and 13 seconds,Trevor
Power was second in 28.09 and Trevor Swift  third in 28.16. Maria
Halley was first lady home in 32.56, Karen English was second in 34.07
with Deirdre Ni Chearbhaill third in 34,30. Category winners were Men
O/40 George O'Grady and Junior Cathal Duffin and Ladies O/40 Louise
Matthews and Junior Orla Queally Ferrybank

Frank Quinlan wins Laura Lynn Half Marathon.

On Good Friday the TODAY/ FM Laura Lynn Half Marathon had an entry  of
1400 in the Phoenix Park in Dublin and Frank Quinlan Waterford AC won
it in 1 hour and 16 minutes and ten seconds.

Faugheen 5 KM on Friday

The First Race in the Outfield Sports Series run by Carrick on Suir
Road Runners is on Friday April 25 th at 7.30 pm  in Faugheen a few
miles outside Carrick on Suir.Turn right at the  traffic lights at the
Barracks in Carrick on Suir and head out.

Coming up on Saturday May 3 rd at 7 pm is the 45 th Annual Paddy
Flanagan Memorial Road Race Waterford to Tramore another race in the
Ger Wyley Sports Series. Friday May 9 th Second Race in Outfield
Sports Seres, Portlaw 5 Miles 7.30 pm and Sunday May 11 th Ferrybank
Community Road Race 11 am.

County Championships

The County Track and Field Championships will be held on Sunday May 11
th and 25 th at the R.S.C. 11 am both days and all clubs have been
emailed the list of events for both days for the past few weeks.Anyone
connected with coaching athletes in clubs should be provided with
these lists by now and the athletes should  be prepared  for events at
training sessions - not on the day. To all the club contacts which
were emailed with the lists, please share them. Athletes should be
made familiar with there events and not produced on the day against
well trained athletes with the obvious results

Irish Universities Championships

The R.S.C was the venue on Friday and Saturday last for the Irish
University Track and Field Championships the first major fixture to be
held there since the track was laid  It was a very successful
championships with Waterford AC and Menapians AC Wexford to the fore
in helping WIT AC to host the event this year. Congrats to WIT
Students Andrew Connick, Michael Deady, Shannon Ryan and all the
organising committee for pulling off such a professional event.
Particular thanks to all the parents and juvenile members of Waterford
AC who gave their time to help and add to the sense of occasion for
the athletes involved. Thanks also to coaches Cait Caulfield, Brian
Scanlon, Deckie Harte, David Murphy, Tom O'Brien and Kieran Leahy who
all gave their time freely to act as officials for the event on behalf
of Waterford AC and also to Tom Prendergast Ferrybank AC, Bro Patrick
and Greg Ashe West Waterford.  Athletes from WIT figured prominently
as did Waterford athletes competing for various University's and
Institutes. Barry Upton U.L won the 400 m hurdles,Ciara Cronin UCC the
800 m and for WIT Andrew Connick won the 10000 metres. Silver medal
winners  were Zoe Scanlon javelin, Eimear Lynch 400 metres both WIT
Tom Boucher U.C.D 16 kg weight, Niall Tuohy U.L. 1500 m, Sorcha Murphy
do high jump, Thomas Houlihan CIT and his sister Lisa NUI Maynooth
both in the pole vault  while third placings were secured by Keith
Smith javelin and long jump, Neil Fox 3000 m walk both WIT and Niamh
Whelan U.L. Visiting athletes and officials were very happy with the
facilities at the R.S.C. and with the staff also

Two Waterford Athletes win in Wales

Ar the Great Welsh Marathon in Llannelli on Sunday last Brian Byrne
West Waterford won the event in 2 hrs 43 minutes 3 seconds and Garrett
Byrne from the same club was 9 th in 3.01.12 First home in the ladies
race was Maeve Savage Waterford AC in 3.25.50

County Schools Championships

On Wednesday last the County Secondary Schools Championships were held
at the R.S.C Doubles were recorded by the following athletes; Ciara Mc
Kenna St Augustine's, Kate Flavin Stella Maris, Emma Hallahan St
Augustine's, Orlaith O'Brien Ursuline, Aaron Donnelly Abbey C.C. James
Murphy Tramore CBS, Mathew Hurley Dungarvan CBS, Sean Whittle De La

Harty wins in Ballinroad

The 20 th Annual Ger Wyley Sports/'Skins Summer Road Race Series began
with  the MTS Media 5 km in Ballinroad on Friday last and 300
competed. The comfortable winner was Philip Harty West Waterford AC in
15 minutes 26 seconds, Frank Quinlan Waterford was second in 15.59 and
Zintars Klava West Waterford  third in 16.31. First lady home was
Sinead Mansfield West Waterford in 18. 43, Evelyn Cashman Youghal was
second in 18.48 and Aine Roche Clonmel was third in 18.53.

Splashworld 10 KM Results

290 competed in above race on Sunday morning last  in Tramore and
Brian Murphy Carrick on Suir won it in 32 minutes 35 seconds, Frank
Quinlan was second in 33.31 and Noel Murphy third in 34.55 both
Waterford AC . The Ladies were led home by Sylvia Malone Waterford AC
in 38.48, Naomi Doonan was second in 42.10 and Oonagh Boland was third
in 42.50. The junior 5 Km winners were Gerard Lynch jnr in 22.43 and
Zara Breslin in 25.39

Ferrybank AC  Sports

There was a huge entry for the Ferrybank Open Sports at the RSC on
Sunday last and the Trophy for best visiting club went to St Joseph's
AC 2nd St Lawrence O'Toole 3 rd Nenagh.

 Butlerstown Road Race on Saturday

The second race in the Ger Wyley Sports Skins Series will be the
Butlerstown 4 miles on Saturday next at 7 pm. Entries from 5.45 pm at
the Butlerstown GAA Centre, Holy Cross Waterford  and the proceeds go
to the Waterford Alzheimer Society. Please note the shorter distance
this year of 4 miles, previously it was 10 KM. On Sunday morning next
with an 11 am start the Easter Bunny 5 miles run is in the city
starting at the R.S.C where entries will be taken from 9.30 am.

Kilmacow Sports on Monday

At The Sports Complex in Kilmacow on Easter Monday the Annual Kimacow
Open Sports has a 1 pm start. Lots of events for juveniles,junior
senior and masters

Harty wins Connemara Marathon

Philip Harty West Waterford AC had the biggest result of his career on
Sunday last when he won the Connemara Marathon over a very picturesque
and demanding  coarse in a time of 2 hrs 28 minutes in gale force
winds,the event had a huge entry. In the Ultra Race again in Connemara
over 39 miles Ravis Zakis  was 2nd in 4 hrs 22 minutes and Anthony
Whelan 5th in 4.40 both again from West Waterford

Winners at Leevale Sports

Last week end Leevale Open Sports took place at the Cork CIT Track
over two days Saturday and Sunday. Day 1 was for seniors and Ferrybank
AC had three winners.These were Kelly Proper long jump 5.80 metres,
Paul Murphy 400 metres 48.65 seconds and Neasa Murphy high jump 1.65
metres, Kelly Proper was second also in both the 100 and 200 metres
and Sorcha Murphy  third in the high jump. On Sunday at the juvenile
section there were winners from four Waterford Clubs. Ferrybank had
two wins with Eoin Kenny in the 15 shot putt and Praise Oweye in the
under 12 6 0 metres, second placings went to Mollie Comerford u 10
javelin, Jake Bagge u14 800 m,Tom Gallagher u14 high jump and third
placings went to Tom Gallagher u 14 hurdles,Chloe Farrell u 15 long
jump, Sinead O'Regan u 16 100 m, Paula Igwe u 12 60 m Mollie Comerford
u 10 300m and Lauren Hennessy u 15 hurdles. For Waterford AC Jack
Corcoran was first in the long jump under u 11 and second in the 300 m
 while Emer Mc Glynn was third in the 600 m u 13. Shane Mc Gonagle
Tramore won the under 15 hurdles and was second in the 100m and long
jump, Cormac Mahony West Waterford won the 600m u 13 and Finisk Valley
a new club had a win with Mossie Kehoe u 8 60 m and Cody Scanlon was
second in the u 9 60 m.

Bralitis wins at WIT

One hundred and sixty five athletes competed in the Annual WIT/AC road
race held in association with Waterford AC at the WIT Sports Campus on
Friday evening last in miserable conditions. The race up front after a
mile or so developed into a two man duel between Sandis Bralitis West
Waterford AC and Trevor Power Waterford AC and in the final stages
Bralitis proved the stronger to win in 15 minutes 31 seconds, Power
was second in 15.33 and Frank Quinlan was third in 16.01. Marie Murphy
Farranfore Maine Valley Kerry led the ladies home in 17.53, Sylvia
Malone Waterford AC was second in 18.31 and Ann Sullivan was third in
19.11. Among the entries was World Champion Joe Gough who got a
rousing welcome from all at the start and the race was started by WIT
President  Ruahri Neavyn. Overall a very well organised event over a
tough enough course

Over 800 boys and girls from Primary Schools all over the City and
adjoining areas took part in the Primary School Sports organised by
Ferrybank AC. at the R.S.C on Tuesday April 1 st.The best large girls
School results; 1 St Ursula's 2nd St John of God 3rd Ballygunner, Best
large boys School Ballygunner 2 nd St Declan's 3rd St Mary's

Busy week end at RSC

One of the first big events of the Track and Field season takes place
at the R.S.C on Friday and Saturday next. The Irish University
Championships will have athletes from all over Ireland competing The
programme begins on Friday at 2 pm and on Saturday at 9.45 am Then on
Sunday the Ferrybank AC Open Sports has a huge programme of events for
juveniles juniors and seniors and masters and the first event is at 12
noon.,full details on Ferrybank AC website. Another fixture on Sunday
morning next  at 11 am is the Splashworld 10 km road race in
Tramore.and a 5 km junior event also
