Waterford athletes and clubs to the fore at Munster Championships


It was quite a successful day for Waterford juvenile athletes and
their clubs at the Munster Cross Country Championships in Turnpike,
Two Mile Borris Co Tipperary on Sunday last. One of the best
performances of the day came from Jake Bagge Ferrybank AC who had an
effortless and very impressive win in the under 14 race which was not
any great surprise as he had won two county titles in recent weeks in
facile fashion, others to impress for Ferrybank were Jake Coffey 3 rd
in the under 10 grade in a huge field, Eoin Browne 4 th under 18 and
Órla Queally 7 th under 18 ,their boys under 14 team were third club.
Waterford AC had a terrific team win in the inter club section with
their girls under 14 squad and these were Lynsey Mc Guire, Emer Mc
Glynn, Emma Caulfield and Anna Duffin while Barry Keane was 8 th under
18.  For West Waterford AC Sean Curran ran a fine race to finish
second in the under 18 age group, Miceál Power was fourth under 16  5
th placings were secured by Aoife Hamiltom u 18 and Oisin O'Riordan u
12. Others to secure top ten placings were Ali Cunningham 7 th under
10, Cian O'Riordan 9 th under 14, Lucy Holmes 10 th under 14 and
Caoimhe Prendergast also 10 th under 10. They had second placings in
the inter club team sections with the girls u 14 and girls u 18 and
third places with the boys under 16 and girls under 16. In the Inter
County team section Waterford won the boys under 8 title the team
being Sean Curran, Eoin Browne, Barry Keane, Shane O'Riordan, Liam
Reilly and Conor Quinn and they were third in both the boys under 12
and girls under 14.

USA Fixture

The Big East Collegiate Cross Country Championships are in
Carmel,Indianapolis  on Friday and Irish athletes will be competing.

21st Annual Murray's Pharmacy 4 miles

Bushy Park GAA grounds a few miles from Dungarvan is the venue for the
Annual Brickey 4 miles  road race on Sunday November 9 th at 11 am.
Registration from 10.15 am onwards in the GAA Clubhouse Bushy Par,
proceeds to Brickey Rangers ladies football club.

Schools Events

In November the Schools Combined Event Championships will be
held.First up are  the Munster's on  Wednesday November 5 th in Nenagh
 at 11 am junior, intermediate and senior and they are followed by the
All Ireland's on Saturday November 15 th in Athlone.

Munster XC Day 1

Fantastic results today at the Munster Cross Country in Turnpike, Co Tipperary. Well done to Jake Bagge who was a runaway winner u 14. Jake Coffey had a fabulous run for third in the boys u 10 race. Eoin Browne was fourth in the boys u 18 race and Orla Quelly was seventh in the girls u 18 race. The Boys u 14 team ( Jake Bagge, Adam Power, Eoin Hearne and Ose Ehimare) won team bronze. There was county medals for Callum Hurley and Daire O Keeffe u 11, Zoe Kiely u 14, and Cian O Keeffe u 16 & Eoin Browne u 18 who were all on successful Waterford teams in the inter county section. Well done to everyone who competed.

Munster Cross Country season begins.

The Munster Championship Cross Country season begins on Sunday next in
Turnpike,Two Mile Borris County Tipperary and Waterford will be very
well represented at the fixture The races are for boys and girls under
10,12,14,16,18 and Novice Men and Women and the first event is at
11.30 am the girls under 10.. County teams have been entered for
Novice women (4 to score), Novice men (6 to score) and U 23 women (3
to score) The following are the teams.Novice Women: Órna Murray
Ferrybank AC, Sylvia Malone, Claudia Lane Mary, Emma Brent, Jenny
O'Loughlin, Niamh Tebay, Siobhain Heylin all Waterford AC and Siobhain
Boylan KCK AC, U 23 Women: Jenny O'Loughlin, Niamh Tebay, Siobhain
Heylin all Waterford AC and Órna Murray Ferrybank AC Novice Men: Noel
Murphy, Des Colbert, Brian Swaby, Richard Hayes, PJ Scollard, Ian
Grant All Waterford AC, Gary Cantwell KCK AC, Damien Murphy and Sean
Stilwell West Waterford AC. The village is located on the L4202 road
at the junction with the Ballyduff Road, close to the N 75 and 7.5 km
(4.7 mi) from Thurles Town Centre. It is also situated 1.5 km from
junction 5 of the M 8 motorway.

Autumn Open Cross Country

A number of athletes from Waterford competed at the Autumn Open Cross
Country in the Phoenix Park in Dublin last Sunday and several had good
performances. Órna Murray Ferrybank was 4 th overall in the 5 km race
and Andrew Connick do was 8 th in the 8 km run. Two athletes were
placed second in their categories. Philip Harty West Waterford over
35, and Sylvia Malone Waterford o 40, Frank Quinlan Waterford was
third o 40 and  Brian Murphy Carrick AC Finished 6 th o 35  and all
four have qualified to compete in the 5 Nation's International in
Nottingham on November 23 rd.

 USA news

The Providence College men's cross country team finished 11th out of
34 teams at the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational on Friday, Oct. 17 in
Madison, Wis. Shane Quinn finished 10th overall and was the first
Providence athlete to finish. Quinn finished in a time of 23:56 over
the 8 km course.The race was won by Maxim Korolev Stanford in 23.43

Schools Events

In November the Schools Combined Event Championships will be held.

Credit Union Award

The monthly Credit Union award for September has gone to Oliver
Mullally St Senan's. During the month Oliver who competes in the under
19 age group won the junior cross country races in both Adamstown Co
Wexford and Kilmacow. Monthly awards are presented for performances in
a particular month only whereas the Supreme Award at end of year takes
in the Best Overall performance of the year involving athletes in
under 13 age group up to under 19 age group. Under 12 athletes are not
eligible.for consideration. Clubs are asked to send in nominations for
each month to County PRO for athletes they consider worthy of
consideration but these nominations only to come from one appointed
person in each club

County Championships Day 2  Winners

All clubs in the County were represented at the County Cross Country
Championship fixture in St Augustine's College Abbeyside on Sunday
last in brilliant weather conditions. The entries were quite good in
most of the races and all clubs figured in the medals. The winner of
the Men's Novice title was Damien Murphy with Sean Stillwell second
and Shane O'Riordan third all West Waterford and West Waterford won
the team prize. First home in the ladies novice was Órla Queally F/B,
Jennie O'Loughlin was second and Niamh Tebay third both Waterford and
Waterford won the team title.The Men's Master's title went to Michael
O'Mahony Waterford , Mossie Keogh West Waterford was second and Jim
Baldwin Waterford was third and Waterford were team winner's. Corina
Walsh West Waterford won the ladies masters crown with Claude Mary
Lane Waterford second and Siobhan Boylan KCK  third ,West Waterford
won the team section.

Juvenile Details

In the juvenile section athletes who had won the previous week were
again in the winner's enclosure and these were Jake Coffey and Jake
Bagge Ferrybank, Lynsey McGuire Waterford and Aoife Hamilton West

Competing for SPS Verdon in the French championships on Sunday last
Ben Kiely Ferrybank AC was a member of the 4 x 400 metres relay team
that easily won the title

First Munster Championships

On Sunday week October 26 th the first Munster fixture of the season
will be the Boys and Girls under 10,12,14,16 and 18 Novice & U/23
Cross Country Championships at Turnpike,  near Two Mile Borris, Co.
Tipperary. Many athletes from Waterford clubs will compete in each age
group and the venue location can be found on Munster Athletics Website

Autumn Cross Country

The Autumn Open Cross Country Event promoted by Athletics Ireland will
take place at the Magazine Fort in the Phoenix Park on Sunday next
19th October.  The event is open to non-Athletics Ireland members and
aims to encourage those that take to the roads every weekend to come
along and try a different style of racing on the country.  There will
be a choice of an open 5 km race starting at 2.15 pm or an 8 km race
starting at 3 pm open to both men and women. Online entry for both
these races is now available:.The races will also incorporate the
Master Cross Country Trials for the British and Irish Master Cross
Country Championships. In order for a Master athlete to be considered
for selection they must compete in their appropriate distance.Athletes
are encouraged to enter online at AAI Ireland for the race however
there will be late entries taken on the day from Donore Harriers Club
House at €20

Awards

Athletics Ireland has announced the nominations for the 2014 National
Athletics Awards in association with GloHealth and Emerald Crystal.
and two Ferrybank AC athletes are among the nominees The awards will
take place on Wednesday 26 th o fNovember from 12.00-3.30pm in the
Crowne Plaza Hotel, Northwood. See Athletics Ireland Website for full
details re tickets etc.

Track and Field Athlete

The nominations for Track and Field Athlete of the Year are; Thomas
Barr (Ferrybank AC) set a new Irish 400m Hurdles record of 48.91 at
the EAP meet in Geneva, Mark English (UCD AC) won the bronze medal in
the 800m at the European Athletics Championships in Zurich. Paul
Robinson (St. Coca’s AC) fourth in the 1500m at the European Athletics
Championships and Kelly Proper (Ferrybank AC) ran a personal best of
23.15 at the European Championships placing tenth overll.

Winter League returns

The Winter league returns on Thursday November 13 th.for the usual six
weeks before Christmas and six weeks after (starting back Jan 8th),
its on every Thursday evening. More details of this year's league to
follow.. Beginners, walkers, joggers, runners, racers.whatever bracket
you put yourself in you are all welcome but you must be over 16 years
and clear reflective clothing is compulsory.

Dublin Citry Marathon Monday October 27 th 9 am, Waterford AC Annual

County XC Day 2

On a glorious day in Abbeyside , the club enjoyed much success at the second day of the County Cross Country Championships. First off were the under 9 girls where Aoibhe Lynch won the race! Her team Kiana Fitzgerald, Roisin Brennan, Stella Smith, Mia Casey, Mia Smith and Hope Deady all ran really well and we were thrilled to win first team place! In the boys under 9 Daniel Goff ran really well to finish in fourth place with David Leavey just behind him. Jake Coffey had an outstanding winning in the boys u 11 race and Nathan Bagge also ran really well here for sixth place. Emma Lowe made a welcome return from injury and had a top ten placing in the girls u 13. Eoin Hearne had a fine run for third overall in the u 13 boys and with Daire O Keeffe fourth, Josh Hogan fifth and Ose Ehimare seventh the team placed second overall. In the girls under 15 Zoe Kiely had a super run placing second and with Emily Goff , Aisling Lowe , Molly Hutchinson, Aoife Casey and Louise Tobin packing into the top twelve we were easy winners of the team gold medals. In the boys u 15 Jake Bagge had a fine win and Cian O Keeffe had a brilliant run for third place. Adam Power was fifth and Craig O Brien tenth making up the team who who gold medals. Orla Quelly had a great run in the Novice race for second overall. Well done to all the athletes and coaches today.....fantastic results!

Trevor Power wins Solas 10 Miles

 Approximately 830 competed in the Annual Beat 102/103 Solas Centre 10
miles road race in the City, Ring Road and and Ballygunner, Dunmore
Road areas on Sunday and Trevor Power was the very easy winner in 54
minutes and 10 seconds, Noel Murphy was second in 55.28 and Frank
Quinlan  was third in 57.47 all three Waterford AC. First lady home in
65.29 was Sally Forristal, second was Elaine O'Donovan in 67.53 both
St Joseph's and Kate Nolan Waterford AC was third in 68.38. The
category winners were as follows; Men Junior Cathal Daly, M 40 Michael
O'Mahony, M 50 Dermot Power, M 60 Jim Power. Ladies; Junior Anna
Kelly, F40 Ethel Ryan, F50 Liz Nolan, F 60 Terri Gough. There were
many Voluntary Groups and individuals helping out around the course
and as usual the Gardai were there in numbers and very much
appreciated.

Bright start to Cross Country season

St  Augustine's College Abbeyside was the venue on Sunday last for the
start of the County Cross Country Championship programme and all clubs
in the county were represented and in the senior event which also
incorporated the West Waterford Open fixture other counties were
represented. Andrew Connick Ferrybank won the senior men's title from
Iain O'Byrne and P J Scollard both Waterford. Waterford won the team
event with the latter two plus Brian Swaby., first junior was Andy
Reidy Waterford. Corina Walsh led the ladies home with Niamh Tebay
Waterford second and Diane Chazhikova West Waterford third, the team
winners were West Waterford with Walsh, Chazhikova and Sarah
Prendergast.  The James Hughes Perpetual Trophy for the winner of the
West Waterford Open race went to Kevin Maunsell Clonmel and Corina
Walsh was first lady home.

Championships continue

 On Sunday next October 12 th the County Championship Cross Country
season continues at St Augustine's College Abbeyside with races for
Boys Girls u 9,11,13,15,17, 19  Novice and Master's Men and Women and
please note the fixture begins at 11.30 am this Sunday. An appeal is
made to all clubs to get their athletes out in each age category right
up to Master's

First Munster Championships

Many of Ireland’s leading senior cross country runners will also line
up in the Phoenix Park in what will be the first big test of the 2014
Cross Country season. For a few the major target for the winter will
be the European Cross Country Championships taking place in Bulgaria
on the 13th of December.  The *junior squads under the tutelage of the
National Junior Team Coaches Steven Macklin, Joe Ryan and Geraldine
Nolan will be out in force as the junior athletes aim to show form
ahead of the GloHealth National Cross Country Championships on the
23rd of November,*Junior women are asked to enter the 5 km open race
and the junior men the 8 km open race, any queries on the junior races

Master Athletes

The races will also incorporate the Master Cross Country Trials for
