Waterford athletes win Irish University titles in Belfast

A number of athletes from Waterford clubs competed with various
Institutions at the Irish University Championships in Belfast on
Friday and Saturday last and several came home with medals. Thomas
Barr who competes in club competition with Ferrybank represented UL in
the 400 metres hurdles and he won in a canter in a time of 50.44
seconds which is inside the standard of 50.60 for the World Student
Games later this summer in Korea, in second place came Ben Kiely his
Ferrybank club mate representing Sligo IT and his time was 53.63
seconds. Brother and sister Thomas and Lisa Houlihan whose club is
West Waterford both won pole vault titles. Thomas representing CIT had
a winning effort of 4.60 metres while Lisa competing for NUI Maynooth
cleared 2.70 metres. Three who compete with Ferrybank club took home
bronze medals Seán Archer representing WIT in the triple jump,Órna
Murray in the 3000 metres with UCC and Andrew Connick in the 10000
metres also with WIT, a silver medal was won by Eimear Lynch WIT in
the 400 metres she runs with Newport AC..

 Órlaith stars at Ferrybank AC Sports

A great crowd of athletes from many parts of the country took part in
the Ferrybank AC Open Sports on Sunday last at the RSC. Performance of
the day came from Órlaith O'Brien Ferrybank who won the under 17
javelin with a personal best throw of 49.85 metres which beat the
European Youth Olympics Qualifying standard which is 48 metres,that
event is in Tiblisi later on this summer The award for the best club
at the meeting went to SLOT from Carlow with 79 pts, Carrick on Suir
were second on 48 and Ferrybank third on 45 ..

 Murphy wins Splashworld 10 KM

240 competed in the Splashworld 10 KM run in Tramore on Sunday last
and Brian Murphy Carrick on Suir was first home in 33 minutes 41
seconds,Paul Ogle Waterford Triathlon Club was second in 34.39 and
Eoin Lyons Focus on Fitness was third in 35.03. First lady home was
Donna Dowling Kilkenny City Hrs in 39.37,Ruth Fitzgerald was second in
39.41 and Janet Quinlan SRR was third in 41.58. The proceeds go to
Tramore AC new Track.

Ballinroad 5 KM

On Friday last almost 400 competitors took part in the first race in
the 21 st Annual Ger Wyley Sports/Skins Series over 5 Km in
Ballinroad. The overall winner was David Mansfield Garda AC in 16
minutes 19 seconds with Noel Murphy Waterford AC second in and Aaron
Carrick on Suir was third in  First lady home was Sally Forristal St
Joseph's in 19.05,Corina Walsh  was second in and Sandra Prendergast
was third in 20 minutes even both West Waterford. The proceeds went to
Ballinroad Soccer Club Pitch Fund.

33 rd  Annual Butlerstown 4 miles on Friday

Race number two in this years Ger Wyley/Skins Summer Series the
Butlerstown 4 miles.is on this Friday starting at 7.00 pm.with entries
taken at the Butlerstown G.A.A. centre. Presentation of prizes and
refreshments will be available at the Holy Cross Bar after the event
.Proceeds to Waterford Branch Alzheimer Society.

Leevale Sports this week end

On Saturday and Sunday next the Leevale Open Sports are at Cork IT
Track. Saturdays programme is for junior and senior athletes and
Sunday is an all juvenile fixture and both begin at 11 am. Lots of
athletes from Waterford clubs will compete both days. Full programme
of events for both days on Leevale website.

National Road Relays

Raheny in Dublin is the venue on Sunday next for the National senior
road relays and Ferrybank AC have men's and women's teams competing.
