USA win for Thomas Barr

On Friday last Thomas Barr Ferrybank had a fine win at a meeting in Florida. Competing in the 400 metres hurdles race at the Tom Jones Memorial meeting he won the event in a very good time of 49.08 seconds,( his best ever time is 48.96) in second place was American Eric Futch who clocked 49.45 and Jack Green from Great Britain was third in 49.85. The time Thomas recorded is well inside the qualifying standard of 49.50 for the World Championships in Beijing next August. Thomas competes on the Irish 4 x 400 m relay team at the World Relay Championships in Bahamas this week end. Unfortunately the team is not as strong as it could be as Mark English is not running and two other members are not in as good a form as last year.If the team were to reach the final in Bahamas they would automatically qualify for next years Olympics. In Limerick on Saturday last at the Thomond Games three Ferrybank athletes competed. Niall Tuohy won the 800 metres in and 400 metres,Phoebe Murphy was third in the 200 metres in ,she was also a member of the Irish Junior relay team that clocked a time of 46.17 seconds which is inside the European junior standard,.Órlaith O'Brien won the javelin ..

Hayley's double

At the Irish Wheelchair Games In Morton Stadium Dublin on Saturday last Hayley Fitzimmons from Portlaw who competes with Ferrybank AC won the Discus and Javelin and was 3 rd in the Shot Putt with a personal best  At the Penn Relays in Philadelphia also on Saturday Kevin Cooper was 8 th in the mile in 4 minutes 6.87

Munster Juvenile Combined Events

Evan Hayes Waterford AC was third in the Munster under 3 Combined Event in Cork on Sunday and 4 th placings were secured by two other Waterford AC boys Cathal Scanlon u 14 and Jack Corcoran u 12 ,Mollie Comerford was 5 th u 11 and in the Munster junior 400 metres Sean Whittle Ferrybank was 4 th.

Ferrybank 10 Km a great success

The Angela  Burns Memorial 10 km road race organised by Ferrybank GAA in brilliant weather on Sunday last was a great success with over 400 participating. A course which took in parts of South Kilkenny was ideal for the event and it was well stewarded. Brian Murphy Carrick on Suir easily won the race in 33.46 with Owen Whelan Mt SionGAA club second in 38.07 and Shane Curtin Ferrybank was third in 39.05. Elaine O'Donovan was first lady home in 41.28, Aisling Ferguson was second in 43.30 First Ferrybank GAA man home was John Byrne in 43.09. The first three in the juvenile race were 1 Cian Kavanagh,2 Sean Heffernan and 3 Ruari McGarrity
.
Faugheen 5 Km details

163 competed on Friday last in the first race in the Outfield Sports 3 County Challenge Series the Faugheen 5 Km in County Topperary. The overall winner was David Mansfield Garda AC who is stationed in Dungarvan and his time was 15 minutes 28  seconds, Niall Sheil St Killian's Wexford was second in 15.45 and Noel Murphy Waterford was third in 15.49 . First lady home was Siobhán O'Doherty  Borrisokane in 17.15 Clare Annan Clonmel was second in 18.28 and Maebh Savage Waterford AC was third in 19.19 Local athletes to figure in the age categories were as follows Men over 45 P J Guinan West Waterford, o 60 Joe Gough do,Ladies 0 35 Joan Mahony Waterford o 55 Bernie Prendergast West Waterford

County Secondary Schools Championships

The RSC was the venue on Wednesday April 22 nd  for the County Secondary Schools Track and Field Championships and several athletes had doubles and girls to win two titles each were Senior/Inter Anne Corcoran Ursuline, Órla QueallyÁrd Scoil na Mara Tramore, Junior Rachel Stephen's, Gael Scoil Phortlairge, Minor Sophie Meade Ursuline  Boys Senior/Inter Barry Keane St Declan's KilmacthomasEoghan Flynn CBS Dungarvan Junior Lance Baylan and Hassan Ali both De La Salle and minor Cathal Scanlon St Declan's and James Delahunty Waterpark. Ursuline won the girls Trophy and De La Salle the boys, the full results are with all schools

Primary School Sports

Hundreds of children from schools in the city and surrounding areas took part in the Annual Waterford City Primary School Sports run by Ferrybank AC at the RSC on Tuesday April 21 sh in brilliant weather and lots of parents were on hand to witness a great few hours sport. The following were the winners of the various cups. Best Boys Large School Ballygunner 2 nd Ferrybank 3 rd St Declan's , Best Large Girls School St Ursula's Ursuline Convent, 2 nd St John of God 3 rd Ballygunner. Best Small School Gael Scoil Phortlairge 2 nd St Stephen's 3 rd Passage. Waterford to Tramore Run on Saturday

Saturday next May 2 nd is the date for this years Annual Blue Wall Technology Paddy Flanagan Memorial Road Race from Waterford to Tramore and it starts near Waterford City Hall at 7 pm sharp. Entries on Total Timing and all who enter online beforehand will go in to a draw for a €400 Barbecue Very limited number of entries taken on night. Anyone competing please make arrangements with someone to take your gear to Tramore

County Championships in RSC 

 Sundays May 10 th and Sunday May 24 th full programme with all clubs long ago, please distribute it around to the people training your athletes.
