National Indoor titles won in Athlone by Waterford athletes
The first two days of the GloHealth National Juvenile Indoor
championships were held in Athlone on Saturday and Sunday last and
three clubs from Waterford had athletes competing and all three had
athletes on the winning podium. Ferrybank AC had four winners and
these were Phoebe Murphy in the 60 metres under 18 with a championship
best time of 7.68 seconds continuing her fine form, Neasa Murphy in
the under 19 high jump with 1.60 metres,she is a regular winner, Kylie
Heinen in the under 14 high jump with a personal best of 1.54 metres
and Praise Owoeye in the long jump under 13 with 4.65 metres and she
was also second in the 60 metres with a personal best of 8.15 seconds
she is a most consistent athlete. Waterford AC had two winners Grace
Furlong in the triple jump with 10.98 metres and Evan Hayes in the
under 13 high jump with 1.45 metres and Órla O'Connor was second in
the 1500 metres walk in 7.42.02. and now Waterford AC names are
appearing regularly in these competition results. West Waterford had
very good results in the pole vault events winning two titles, Séamie
Fennell won the under 19 title with 4.10 metres and Jurig Kanass was
third in the same event also on 4.10 metres, Patrick Fitzgerald won
the under 15 title with 2.10 metres and Craig Cluna was third in the
under 16 with 2.70 metres. All three clubs had athletes just outside
the medals coming fourth in their finals.
National Juvenile Indoors Day 3
Its Athlone again on Saturday next for the final day of the GloHealth
National Juvenile Indoor Championships and they begin at 10 am.
Waterford will be well represented at the fixture and we expect more
winners
.Munster Road Championships
Kilmallock Co Limerick is the venue on Sunday next for the Munster
Senior and Novice Road Championships and they begin at 1 pm. There are
just two races men and women with senior and novice sections included
in both and distance is 4 miles. Waterford athletes will compete

The Annual Kilmacow Open Sports will on Easter Monday April 6 th at 1
pm in the Sports Complex in Kilmacow. Lots of events for
juveniles,junior,senior and masters full list on St Senan's AC website

of Waterford Hospice.12 noon. Monday April 6 th Aglish 10 KM and 5 Km
11.30 am. Sunday April 12 th Splashworld 10 km/7 km junior and 5 km
walk Tramore 11 am Sunday 26 th Ferrybank Community Family Run 10 KM
11 am.
Ladies in Lisbon Half Marathon
Last Sunday five ladies from the Waterford area were among the
thousands who took part in the 25 th Annual Half Marathon in Lisbon in
Portugal. the five were Ann Flynn, Kathleen Kennedy ,Rosie Van Der
Valk,Tina Connolly and Patsy Foskin.

National Juvenile Indoors Weekend 1
Our crew simply covered themselves in glory this weekend in Athlone at the national juvenile championships winning four gold and a silver and several final placings. Well done to Phoebe Murphy who won the u 18 69m in a championship best and a new lifetime best of 7.68s. We had double high jump gold with Neasa Murphy winning u 19 and Kylie Heinan winning u 14 in a new pb. Praise Owoeye was in brilliant form winning gold in the u 14 long jump and silver in the 60m where she smashed her pb running 8.15. Stephen Walsh ran a brilliant final in the 400m finishing 4th in a new pb of 50.88. Katie Murphy made the final in the u 16 long jump and Oisin Kiely had a great run in the u 17 60m. Sinead O'regan jumped a brilliant 1.50m for 5th in the u 17 high jump and Tom Gallagher also jumped well in the u 15 event. Frankie Dolphin made the final in his high jump u 17. Spare a thought for Patrick o Neill who was most unlucky to be disqualified in the 60m for a false start after looking really good in warm up. Well done to everyone.

All Ireland Juvenile Indoors this week end
On Saturday and Sunday next the GloHealth National Juvenile Indoor
Championships for boys and girls under 12 to 19 will be at the Athlone
arena starting at 10.30 am on Saturday and at 10 am on Sunday and
Waterford clubs will have several athletes competing against the best
young athletes in the country, the full timetable is available on
Athletics Ireland Website.On Saturday the Schools International Cross
Country fixture is in Santry Demesne with a 12 noon start
National Master's titles galore
The National Master's Indoor Championships were staged in Athlone on
Sunday last and athletes from West Waterford AC,Waterford AC and
Ferrybank AC got among the medals with nine titles being won by West
Waterford AC and three by Waterford AC. For West Waterford in the
ladies Terri Gough had four firsts over 70 in the 60.100 and 200
metres as well as the shot putt and she was second in the hammer, Joe
Gough won the 200,400 and 800 metres over 60, Brendan Moran was first
in the 200 metres over 55 and 3 rd in the 60 metres and Harry O'Brien
was first in the 1500 metres over 50. For Waterford AC Paschal Halley
won the 60 metres hurdles and long jump over 45 and was second in the
400 metres while Tom O'Brien retained his high jump title over 45 and
Brendan Leahy was third in the 200 metres over 35 Ferrybank's sole
medal winner was Pat Kennedy 3 rd in the shot putt over 60.
American result
Providence College graduate-student Emily Sisson (Chesterfield, Mo.)
was crowned the 2015 NCAA 5,000 meter Indoor Champion on Friday last
in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The title marks Sisson's first ever NCAA
title and is the first title a Providence College track athlete has
won since Danette Doetzel claimed her 10,000 meter NCAA outdoor title
in 2009. Sisson looked dominant from the start of the race, finishing
in a time of 15:32.15, eight-seconds ahead of the second-place
finisher. She also won the bronze medal in the 3000 metres on Saturday
last.Followers of the sport locally may remember her winning the Alan
Everett Road race in Woodstown last year while home on holidays from
the USA with Shane Quinn.
Munster Fixture note.
The Munster Road Championships Senior and Novice will take place on
Sunday week March 29 th in Kilmallock, Co. Limerick at 1 pm.. There
will be 2 races on the day, women (incorporating both novice and
senior in the one race) and men (Incorporating novice and senior), and
county teams will be sent where appropriate. To sort out such county
teams, clubs to send John Behan Waterford County Secretary at address
below any athletes that will be competing in these championships by
March 17 th

distance event for under 8 to under 12 and also over 12 as well as
relays. Contact for both 087 6889330 please note only for schools in
Waterford City and surrounding areas in Co Waterford.
Deadline for transfers
A reminder that the deadline for transfers is March 24 th, with May 1
st being the date an athlete may compete for their new club once the

be sent to County Secretary John Behan, Curralandy, Rathgormack,
Carrick-On-Suir, Co. Waterford.

Quinn second in Big East Championship in USA.
Competing at the Big East Collegiate Indoor Championships in New York
last week end Shane Quinn Providence College ran in races on Saturday
and Sunday. On Saturday he ran a very good race in the 5000 metres to
finish second overall in a time of 14 minutes 19.53 seconds not very
far behind the winner James Tiernan Villanova who clocked 14.18.04.
Then on Sunday Shane ran the 3000 metres where he finished 6 th in
8.22.58 the race was won in 8.17.58. In Boston last week end Kevin
Cooper finished third in a 1 mile race in 4 minutes 2 seconds his
second best time for the distance.At the National Cross Country
Championships in Rostrevor Co Down on Sunday Andrew Connick Ferrybank
was 11 th in the senior race,the winner was Mick Clohessy Raheny
Shamrocks an athlete very well known in the South East.
Busy Month
March will be an extremely busy month, with Munster and National
Indoor Championships, Schools Cross Country and of course the major
fixtures are the World Cross Country Championships in China and the
European Indoor Championships in Prague from this Friday March 6 th to
Sunday March 8 th and there was due to be a Waterford interest but
unfortunately Paul Murphy from Ferrybank AC who was chosen on the 4 x
400 Metres Relay squad had to withdraw due to a fractured bone in his
foot. Mark English carries the hopes in the 800 metres of a very
young Irish team

Nenagh was the venue on Saturday and Sunday last for the Munster under
13 to 19 Indoor Championships and athletes from Ferrybank AC and
Waterford AC did well.Ferrybank AC had a very good championships and
had wins with Phoebe Murphy under 18 60 and 200 metres, Niamh Casey
u18, 800 and 1500 metres, Praise Qweye u 13 60 metres and long jump,
Frankie Dolphin won the high jump under 17, Neasa Murphy the high jump
under 19,second placings were had by Steven Walsh 400 metres u 19,
Jake Bagge 800 metres u15 ,Kylie Heinen high jump u14, Patrick O'Neill
60 metres u18 and Sinéad O'Regan had thirds in the long and high jump
under17. Waterford AC had wins with Órla O'Connor u16 walk and Emma
Caulfield u15 walk, seconds with James Murphy u16 long jump, Ruth
Heery u16 walk,Hannah Jacob u 17 walk and third placings with Anna O'
Connor u16 walk, Evan Hayes u 13 high jump and James Murphy u16 high
jump. For Tramore AC Denise O'Connor was third in the u18 hurdles
All Ireland Schools Cross Country
On Saturday next with a 12 noon start the All Ireland Secondary
Schools Cross Country Championships are in Clongowes Wood College
Grounds ,Clane Co Kildare Many athletes from Waterford schools will be
competing in four grades boys and girls minor, junior,intermediate and
senior. A few individuals are expected to challenge for honours and
team titles are also up for grabs.
Munster under 9 to 12
Nenagh is the venue on Saturday and Sunday for the Munster under 9 to
12 Indoor Championships over two very long days. Many youngsters from
Waterford clubs will be competing and at this age they are basically
learning about their sport and any over emphasis on them at this age
can lead to a short time in the sport as happens in all sports,
enjoyment should be the keyword. Full programme is on Munster
Athletics website the first day starts at 10 am and the second at
10.30 am and remember Nenagh is a very cold spot keep youngsters
mobile and warm

Munster Indoors Day 2 Juveniles
It was another excellent day in Nenagh where we had gold medals from Frankie Dolphin in the u 17 high jump, Praise Owoeye in the under 13 long jump and Niamh Casey in the 18 800m. Our silver medalsits were Jake Bagge in the u 15 800m, Kylie Heinan in the u 14 high jump and Patrick O Neill in the u 19 60m. Sinead O Regan secured her second bronze of the weekend in the u 17 long jump. Well done to everyone who competed so well this weekend.

Fantastic results in Nenagh today at the Munster u 13-19 championships where we won five gold, 2 silver and a bronze.
