USA win for Thomas Barr

On Friday last Thomas Barr Ferrybank had a fine win at a meeting in Florida. Competing in the 400 metres hurdles race at the Tom Jones Memorial meeting he won the event in a very good time of 49.08 seconds,( his best ever time is 48.96) in second place was American Eric Futch who clocked 49.45 and Jack Green from Great Britain was third in 49.85. The time Thomas recorded is well inside the qualifying standard of 49.50 for the World Championships in Beijing next August. Thomas competes on the Irish 4 x 400 m relay team at the World Relay Championships in Bahamas this week end. Unfortunately the team is not as strong as it could be as Mark English is not running and two other members are not in as good a form as last year.If the team were to reach the final in Bahamas they would automatically qualify for next years Olympics. In Limerick on Saturday last at the Thomond Games three Ferrybank athletes competed. Niall Tuohy won the 800 metres in and 400 metres,Phoebe Murphy was third in the 200 metres in ,she was also a member of the Irish Junior relay team that clocked a time of 46.17 seconds which is inside the European junior standard,.Órlaith O'Brien won the javelin ..

Hayley's double

At the Irish Wheelchair Games In Morton Stadium Dublin on Saturday last Hayley Fitzimmons from Portlaw who competes with Ferrybank AC won the Discus and Javelin and was 3 rd in the Shot Putt with a personal best  At the Penn Relays in Philadelphia also on Saturday Kevin Cooper was 8 th in the mile in 4 minutes 6.87

Munster Juvenile Combined Events

Evan Hayes Waterford AC was third in the Munster under 3 Combined Event in Cork on Sunday and 4 th placings were secured by two other Waterford AC boys Cathal Scanlon u 14 and Jack Corcoran u 12 ,Mollie Comerford was 5 th u 11 and in the Munster junior 400 metres Sean Whittle Ferrybank was 4 th.

Ferrybank 10 Km a great success

The Angela  Burns Memorial 10 km road race organised by Ferrybank GAA in brilliant weather on Sunday last was a great success with over 400 participating. A course which took in parts of South Kilkenny was ideal for the event and it was well stewarded. Brian Murphy Carrick on Suir easily won the race in 33.46 with Owen Whelan Mt SionGAA club second in 38.07 and Shane Curtin Ferrybank was third in 39.05. Elaine O'Donovan was first lady home in 41.28, Aisling Ferguson was second in 43.30 First Ferrybank GAA man home was John Byrne in 43.09. The first three in the juvenile race were 1 Cian Kavanagh,2 Sean Heffernan and 3 Ruari McGarrity

Faugheen 5 Km details

163 competed on Friday last in the first race in the Outfield Sports 3 County Challenge Series the Faugheen 5 Km in County Topperary. The overall winner was David Mansfield Garda AC who is stationed in Dungarvan and his time was 15 minutes 28  seconds, Niall Sheil St Killian's Wexford was second in 15.45 and Noel Murphy Waterford was third in 15.49 . First lady home was Siobhán O'Doherty  Borrisokane in 17.15 Clare Annan Clonmel was second in 18.28 and Maebh Savage Waterford AC was third in 19.19 Local athletes to figure in the age categories were as follows Men over 45 P J Guinan West Waterford, o 60 Joe Gough do,Ladies 0 35 Joan Mahony Waterford o 55 Bernie Prendergast West Waterford

County Secondary Schools Championships

The RSC was the venue on Wednesday April 22 nd  for the County Secondary Schools Track and Field Championships and several athletes had doubles and girls to win two titles each were Senior/Inter Anne Corcoran Ursuline, Órla QueallyÁrd Scoil na Mara Tramore, Junior Rachel Stephen's, Gael Scoil Phortlairge, Minor Sophie Meade Ursuline  Boys Senior/Inter Barry Keane St Declan's KilmacthomasEoghan Flynn CBS Dungarvan Junior Lance Baylan and Hassan Ali both De La Salle and minor Cathal Scanlon St Declan's and James Delahunty Waterpark. Ursuline won the girls Trophy and De La Salle the boys, the full results are with all schools

Primary School Sports

Hundreds of children from schools in the city and surrounding areas took part in the Annual Waterford City Primary School Sports run by Ferrybank AC at the RSC on Tuesday April 21 sh in brilliant weather and lots of parents were on hand to witness a great few hours sport. The following were the winners of the various cups. Best Boys Large School Ballygunner 2 nd Ferrybank 3 rd St Declan's , Best Large Girls School St Ursula's Ursuline Convent, 2 nd St John of God 3 rd Ballygunner. Waterford to Tramore Run on Saturday

Saturday next May 2 nd is the date for this years Annual Blue Wall Technology Paddy Flanagan Memorial Road Race from Waterford to Tramore and it starts near Waterford City Hall at 7 pm sharp. Entries on Total Timing and all who enter online beforehand will go in to a draw for a €400 Barbecue Very limited number of entries taken on night. Anyone competing please make arrangements with someone to take your gear to Tramore

David McCarthy double in Cork

Leevale Open Sports at Cork IT track last week end was a two day event. On Saturday it was for junior and senior athletes and on Sunday it was an all juvenile meeting and at both fixtures Waterford athletes had successes. Making a very welcome return to the sport on Saturday David McCarthy West Waterford had a fine middle distance double. He won the 800 metres in 1.55.02 and the 1500 metres in 3.53.67,two other West Waterford successes were secured by Thomas Houlihan in the pole vault with 4.60 metres and his sister Lisa in the same event with 3 metres,Kevin Fitzgerald Waterford AC was third in the shot putt. On Sunday at the juvenile section there were wins by Shane Monagle Tramore in the under16 hurdles, Jake Bagge Ferrybank u 15 800 metres and Corey Scanlon Finnisk Valley in the under 10 300 metres,second placings went to Katie Nolke Ferrybank u 12 high jump, Shane Monagle u17 long jump and third placings went to Tom Halley Tramore u 11 300 metres and Ian Holmes West Waterford u 9 300
metres. Ferrybank AC had a men's and women's team competing in the National Road Relays on Sunday in Dublin but both were unplaced.

Harty wins Butlerstown 4 Miles

354 competed in the 33 rd Annual Delamere Life sponsored  4 miles road race on Friday last in Butlerstown in excellent conditions race 2 of The Ger Wyley Sports Skins Series
The overall winner in decisive fashion was Philip Harty West Waterford in 20minutes and 9 seconds,Trevor Power was second in 20.29 and Noel Murphy was third in 20.42 both Waterford AC..Adele Walsh St Senan's celebrating her 40 th birthday won the ladies section in 24.23.Annleigh Hore Kilmore was second in 24.28 and Sally Forristal St Joseph's was third in 24.52 The category winners were Men 0ver 40 Frank Quinlan Waterford, o 45 PJ Guinan ( Ind), o50 Walter Keane Waterford, o55 Liam Clince West Waterford, o60 Joe Gough do, junior Adam Power Ferrybank. Women o35 Maebh Savage Waterford,o 40 Corina Walsh West Waterford,o45 Maria Murphy ( Ind,) o50 Eileen Heffernan Tried and Tested,o55 Una Ui Mhuirithe ( Ind ) junior Maria O'Donovan The race was the second in the Ger Wyley Sports Skins Series and the proceeds go to Waterford Alzheimer's Society and Butlerstown GAA. The prizes were presented by Vinnie Codd on behalf of Delawere Life and he thanked the Gardai,Stewards,Butlerstown GAA ,The Holy Cross Lounge,West Waterford AC the ladies who served the refreshments and all the athletes who competed in a very successful event..

.Munster Championship fixture in Cork

The Munster junior and under 23 Track and Field Championships are in Cork IT Grounds on Sunday next and also included are the juvenile pentathlon championships. Lots of athletes from Waterford clubs will compete with the first event at 9.30 am ,full timetable on Munster Athletics Website.

Three County Challenge begins

On Friday next with a 7 pm start the first race in the Outfield Sports 3 County Challenge will be the Fitzgerald 5 Km in Faugheen near Carrick on Suir. Entries at the venue from 5.45 pm and please note come early to register as race has to begin at 7 pm due to another event in the area.

Ferrybank run on Sunday

The Angela Burns Memorial 10 km Run/Walk will take place on Sunday next April 26 th at 11 am from the Ferrybank GAA grounds. Entry fee is €10.Pre-registrations nights will take place on the following evenings from 7 to 8 pm Tuesday 21 st and Thursday 23 rd April.There will also be a juvenile race for the Under 12's, taking place at 10:30 am, with an entry fee of €2.

Schools Fixtures

Two school fixtures take place at the RSC this week.Today Tuesday morning the Annual Waterford City Primary School Sports is starts at 11 am. Races for each class 1 st to 6 th  Sprint and middle distance run plus relay for each class boys and girls.On Wednesday at 12 noon the Waterford Secondary Schools Championships go ahead with athletes competing in four grades. On Wednesday April 29 th at 12 noon the East Munster Secondary Schools Championships are in Templemore Co Tipperary

Waterford athletes win Irish University titles in Belfast

A number of athletes from Waterford clubs competed with various
Institutions at the Irish University Championships in Belfast on
Friday and Saturday last and several came home with medals. Thomas
Barr who competes in club competition with Ferrybank represented UL in
the 400 metres hurdles and he won in a canter in a time of 50.44
seconds which is inside the standard of 50.60 for the World Student
Games later this summer in Korea, in second place came Ben Kiely his
Ferrybank club mate representing Sligo IT and his time was 53.63
seconds. Brother and sister Thomas and Lisa Houlihan whose club is
West Waterford both won pole vault titles. Thomas representing CIT had
a winning effort of 4.60 metres while Lisa competing for NUI Maynooth
cleared 2.70 metres. Three who compete with Ferrybank club took home
bronze medals Seán Archer representing WIT in the triple jump,Órna
Murray in the 3000 metres with UCC and Andrew Connick in the 10000
metres also with WIT, a silver medal was won by Eimear Lynch WIT in
the 400 metres she runs with Newport AC..

 Órlaith stars at Ferrybank AC Sports

A great crowd of athletes from many parts of the country took part in
the Ferrybank AC Open Sports on Sunday last at the RSC. Performance of
the day came from Órlaith O'Brien Ferrybank who won the under 17
javelin with a personal best throw of 49.85 metres which beat the
European Youth Olympics Qualifying standard which is 48 metres,that
event is in Tiblisi later on this summer The award for the best club
at the meeting went to SLOT from Carlow with 79 pts, Carrick on Suir
were second on 48 and Ferrybank third on 45 ..

 Murphy wins Splashworld 10 KM

240 competed in the Splashworld 10 KM run in Tramore on Sunday last
and Brian Murphy Carrick on Suir was first home in 33 minutes 41
seconds,Paul Ogle Waterford Triathlon Club was second in 34.39 and
Eoin Lyons Focus on Fitness was third in 35.03. First lady home was
Donna Dowling Kilkenny City Hrs in 39.37,Ruth Fitzgerald was second in
39.41 and Janet Quinlan SRR was third in 41.58. The proceeds go to
Tramore AC new Track.

Ballinroad 5 KM

On Friday last almost 400 competitors took part in the first race in
the 21 st Annual Ger Wyley Sports/Skins Series over 5 Km in
Ballinroad. The overall winner was David Mansfield Garda AC in 16
minutes 19 seconds with Noel Murphy Waterford AC second in and Aaron
Carrick on Suir was third in  First lady home was Sally Forristal St
Joseph's in 19.05,Corina Walsh  was second in and Sandra Prendergast
was third in 20 minutes even both West Waterford. The proceeds went to
Ballinroad Soccer Club Pitch Fund.

33 rd  Annual Butlerstown 4 miles on Friday

Race number two in this years Ger Wyley/Skins Summer Series the
Butlerstown 4 miles.is on this Friday starting at 7.00 pm.with entries
taken at the Butlerstown G.A.A. centre. Presentation of prizes and
refreshments will be available at the Holy Cross Bar after the event
.Proceeds to Waterford Branch Alzheimer Society.

Leevale Sports this week end

On Saturday and Sunday next the Leevale Open Sports are at Cork IT
Track. Saturdays programme is for junior and senior athletes and
Sunday is an all juvenile fixture and both begin at 11 am. Lots of
athletes from Waterford clubs will compete both days. Full programme
of events for both days on Leevale website.

National Road Relays

Raheny in Dublin is the venue on Sunday next for the National senior
road relays and Ferrybank AC have men's and women's teams competing.

Easter Bunny Run a great success

200 competed in the Annual Easter Bunny Run over 5 miles in excellent conditions which started and finished at the RSC on Sunday last. Trevor Swift one of the organisers was first home in 27 minutes and 25 seconds, Brian Swaby Waterford AC was second in 28.12 and Damien Bourke was third in 29.26. First lady home was Donna Dunne Kilkenny City Harriers in 32.34, Mary Molloy Carrick on Suir was second in 33.33 and Naomi Doonan Ardnahoe Flyers was third in 33.35. First male over 40 was Paul Wyse Waterford Triathlon Club and first junior Conor Shiels and first lady over 35 was Esther Murphy Midleton and first junior Anna Duffin Waterford AC. Proceeds go to Waterford Hospice and Brick by Brick

100 Miles Race

Paul Brunnock West Waterford AC finished third in the Vartry 100 miles run in County Wicklow on Saturday. The event held on a 10 miles circuit near Roundwood in County Wicklow Ireland's highest town finished in that town. Brunnock was timed at 18 hrs and 57 minutes.

Ferrybank Sports in RSC on Sunday

The Annual Open Sports promoted by Ferrybank AC is scheduled for RSC in Waterford on Sunday next April 12 th at 12 noon, lots of events for athletes male and female under 8 to 17, junior and senior men and women. The Irish University Championships arein Belfast on Friday and Saturday next and Waterford athletes will compete for various Universities and Institutes. Leevale Cork Open Sports are on April 18 th senior/junior and April 19 th juvenile see their website. The Munster junior and under 23 championships as well as the juvenile pentathlon will be at Cork IT track on Sunday April 26 th see Munster Athletics Website.

The 21 st Annual Ger Wyley Skins Road Series begins this Friday at 7 pm in Ballinroad with the second Annual MTS Broadband 5 Km, entries in Ballinroad from 5.45 pm. On Sunday the Splashworld 10 km/7 km junior and 5 km walk  is in Tramore at 11 am, entries will be taken in Splashworld Saturday 5 to 7 pm and on Sunday
morning from 9 am. to 10.30 am

Easter Bunny Run on Sunday

On Sunday next the Annual Easter Bunny 5 Miles Road race starts at the
RSC at 11 am  and finishes there also. Entries will be taken at the
RSC on Saturday from 1 to 4 pm and on Sunday from 9 am to 10.30
am,proceeds go to Waterford Hospice and Brick by Brick.

Kilmacow Sports on Monday

The first sports of the season locally goes ahead on Monday next at
1-pm in Kilmacow Sports Complex. Lots of vents for juveniles boys and
girls under 8 to under 17, under 19  walks, junior events ,senior men
3000 metres,senior women 1500 metres with master's prizesalso


National Juvenile Indoors conclude

Two athletes from Ferrybank AC both won silver medals in 200 metres
events on the final day of the Glo Health National Juvenile Indoor
Championships in Athlone last Saturday. Steven Walsh clocked 22.08
seconds in the under 19 age group and Phoebe Murohy 24.30 under 18 and
this was inside the B qualifying standard for the European Junior
Championships,the A standard is 24.25. In Prague on Saturday Andrew
Connick Ferrybank was 29 th in the Prague Half Marathon in 69 minutes
15 seconds well inside his best time.

Philip wins Munster Road title

In Kilmallock on Sunday last the Munster Road Championships took place
and Philip Harty West Waterford was first in the master's section and
third senior overall. Another West Waterford athlete Eoin Flynn won
the javelin at a throwers meeting in Athlone on Sunday.

Queens Half Marathon

John Nolan Waterford AC recently finished 12 overall in the Queens
Half Marathon in New York

The Annual Open Sports promoted by Ferrybank AC is scheduled for RSC
